Darryl Sharratt is the father of former Marine L/Cpl Justin Sharratt He is also
a constituent of John Murtha’s 12th Congressional district. On May 17, 2006,
Darryl and his family watched in horror as their own Congressman appeared on
national television and called their son, and his Haditha Marine squad mates
"cold-blooded" murderers even before an investigation had begun.
In fact, Congressman Murtha not only improperly influenced the prosecution of
the Haditha Marines from the start by stating exactly what the not-yet-conducted
investigation would conclude, he insisted that anyone who said different, up to
and including General Peter Pace, was a liar.
Congressman Murtha was wrong. As each Marine has come to trial, he has been
fully exonerated of any criminal activity. The final Marine, Staff Sergeant
Wuterich, has seen his own charges reduced to manslaughter as the result of a
preliminary hearing. This means that no one in authority still claims that the
incident in Haditha was "cold-blooded murder."
No one except Congressman John Murtha.
But Mr. Murtha’s zeal for identifying those who commit "cold-blooded murder"
does not extend to individuals intent on the destruction of America. This
summer, the Congressman voted against the Hoekstra Amendment to an intelligence
funding bill. The Amendment prohibits all US Intelligence Agencies from
whitewashing the behavior of the Islamic terrorists in their memos, reports, and
in all other correspondence. Without the Hoekstra Amendment, terms such as
terrorist, insurgent, Jihadist, and Islamic fundamentalist would have been
banned in dealing with known enemies of our country.
Darryl Sharratt was outraged. "Mr. Murtha, when will your hypocrisy end? You
have shown no remorse, you have shown no embarrassment for falsely pronouncing
United States Marines, cold blooded murderers. On May 17, 2006 you denied these
Marines their protections under the United States Constitution. With your ‘for
the ban’ vote last week, you tried to give our enemies rights which you denied
our Haditha Marines. Marines like my son."
John Murtha once served his country. But today, his words and actions to protect
the reputations of the terrorists and destroy those of our own Marines are
anything but patriotic. In fact, his false accusations are used by terrorists
around the world to inflame anti-American sentiment, and to vindicate their
bombings and suicide missions.
But instead of admitting that he was wrong and apologizing to the Marines, their
families, and the United States military, the Congressman voted to remove the
descriptions of the terrorist actions his accusations are inciting from U.S.
intelligence files. And there is significant speculation that he may be using
the influence of his Congressional position to delay the trial of the final
Marine, Staff Sergeant Wuterich, at least until after the election.
Obviously, Mr. Murtha is as sure of the outcome of that election as he is of the
guilt of the Haditha Marines. He shouldn’t be.

The United States House Representatives did not allow John Murtha’s attempt to

courts did not allow John Murtha’s attempt to use Marines as political fodder to

continued abuse of Congressional power to succeed either.
